Oghenekevwe Abido is a Nigerian artist known as "SMOKIZ" on stage, rapper and singer, he is the eldest in a family of Four, two boys two girls, love listening to music when he was younger and counts Chris Brown, Yung Six has those who inspired him into doing music.
In this Interview he takes us through his journey so far and what he expects in the future
Tell us how your journey into music began; how did it all
start?...
Started with a group named Nappy Bad Boiz, we were 3,
myself, Ojevwiz and Dj Sways, back then i was the singer in the group from
there i met stainless the lighter who i followed to the studio that was when i
did my first mixtape "GO HARD". In 2011 i decided to take music serious
and started listening to Yung Six, i ran a skit for him tittled "MESSAGE
TO YUNGSIX".
Where do you see Yourself in five years time
Music grows everyday, as it grows i grow too, so i think by
then i will be much bigger than this, local and international headlining shows
from Lagos to Amsterdam.
So what makes Smokiz stand out?
Some say my voice, some say because i'm small, many take
interest in me for different reasons, but i will say my style of music is what
stands me out from the pack.
What kind of music has influence your style of music?...
Chris Brown's songs, Big Sean and Yungsix
What’s the kind of reaction do you get when you perform on
stage? ...
Truly i don't how i feel, at that point in time i'm on
another realm.
When people hear smokiz music, the style is quite similar to
that of yungsix. What do you say about the similarities with your music
Nigerians like comparing people and there’s nothing we can
do about that. I feel like we make different kinds of music. It’s because it’s
a new vibe, and not ‘kpangolo’ so they just class us
So tell me about your upcoming projects; you dropped a
mixtape already…...
Actually i'm working on a song with Erigga
tittled "GHANA MUST GO" song will be out in a months time and after
that God willing there will be a video for it.
